Track Your Marketing with Facebook Post Insights

Facebook_Like_ButtonFanpage administrators can now see data on the performance of each of their posts.  Facebook pages are giving “impressions” and “feedback percentages” on each of your fanpage status updates!  That let’s us measure the results of our marketing efforts as we go so we know where to improve.

Impressions

Each post now displays (to admins only) how many impressions the post has received (how many times it has been displayed to all users).  This is not the number of users who have seen the post but is the raw number of impressions that have been shown to users. These impressions can come from a user’s news feed, a visit to the Page, or through an Open Graph social plugin.

If the story or post is shown to the user below the fold, it does count as an impression. Facebook measures the number of times the post is rendered in a users browser.

The impression count may show as higher than the number of followers your Page has.  This is because many users refresh their homepage and visit their homepage multiple times during a session, and each time the post is rendered, it counts as an impression.  Currently you can’t see unique user impression counts.

Feedback %

Each post now also displays (to admins only) its feedback percentage, which is based on how many comments and Likes have been left on the post.

It only measures comments and likes, and no other actions (such as video plays and link clicks).  For those mathematicians out there, the percentage is computed as

(Comments + Likes) / Impressions.

To measure how many people click on a video or other link, use a free service such as bit.ly to track your links.

Unfortunately you can’t currently download the information into an Excel spreadsheet.  Nevertheless, the data is useful to track your response rate and see what your followers prefer to receive and allow you to engage them on a deeper level!

Post Insights is only available for Facebook fanpages.
