Facebook is upgrading their messaging system, allowing you to receive messages from people via 3 options:
1. Send a message button on your profile
2. A unique Facebook email address that is unique to you
3. Text message to your phone

Facebook is giving each person their own @facebook.com email address. Messages sent to your personal email address go into your Facebook messages.

Here’s how to get yours:

To set up a free @facebook.com address, go to your Messages in your Personal profile and click the “Claim your Facebook email” link. This link may not be currently visible in your profile. Stay tuned, we’re trying to find out whether you have to wait for an invitation to upgrade or not.

Your email address will match your public username, for example:

Profile: facebook.com/username
Email: username@facebook.com

If you don’t have a username yet, you can choose one when you create your email address.

How do I get messages sent to my Facebook email address?

Once you set up your email address, people can email you using any of the traditional email systems (e.g., Hotmail, Yahoo or Gmail), and the emails will be delivered to your Facebook Messages. messages from your Facebook friends will appear in your Messages link. Messages from non-friends, Pages you ‘Like’ and Groups you belong to will appear in your ‘Other’ Messages link.

When you send messages to external email addresses, the emails will be formatted to look like Facebook messages, including your name, your profile picture and your message.
