I’ll keep this brief, but a recent post I saw on Facebook just reinforced the dangers of not knowing what you are doing in Social Media and Networking….suffice it to say that the person posting a status update did not know what they were letting themselves in for! Here’s why:
Social Media sites are a great way to expand your network and meet new people, but in general, they are a public forum. It is critical that you know exactly what you are doing and maintain a professional approach to Social Networking at all times, if you want to avoid regrets later. Be sure you know thoroughly how each Social Networking platform works with regard to privacy and open access. If in doubt, search the Help feature available in most sites.
Whenever you post a status update on Facebook, a tweet on Twitter or a blog post on your blog it is open for people to see. And assume that they will! You can change the privacy of certain settings, but unless you know what you are doing, you can bet that pretty much anyone can see what you post.
So be careful what you post!
You have been warned…..
